The
Mahabharatha is considered as the greatest among all the Indian
epics. It has been divided into eighteen chapters. The episode
"Virataparva" includes a very interesting story,
"Keechaka Samharam".
The
Pandavas along with Draupadi go in disguise to the kingdom
of Virata for a period of one year inorder to complete their
agnatavasa. Keecha the Brother-in-law of Virata, gets fascinated
by Draupadi's astounding beauty and desires for her, but subsequently
gets killed by Bheema in the "Nartanasala", who
is in the disguise of Draupadi.

Dharmaraja
comes to the kingdom of Virata in disguise of Kankubhattu.
He claims to be an advisor to Dharmaraja previously
and seeks a similar job. Bheema enters with the
name Valala in the disguise of a cook. Arjuna takes
up the job of a dance teacher in the "Nartanasala"
to train Virata's daughter Uttara. He calls himself
as Bruhannala. |

|
Keechaka,
the Brother-in-law of Virata, who is also called
"Simhabala" owing to his mighty strength.
While enjoying with his girl friends, dancing and
drinking, a soldier comes and informs him that his
sister Sudheshna is willing to meet him immediately.
He takes leave from his girl friends promising them
that he would be back soon and goes to meet his
sister Sudheshna. |

In
the Nartanasala, Bruhannala (Arjuna) starts teaching
dance to Uttara. |

 |
On
his way, Keechaka goes to Nartanasala and appreciates
Uttara who is practicing dance with Bruhannala.
He also observes new faces (Pandavas in disguise)
and then proceeds to his sister's palace. |

|
|
Draupadi
makes a garland of flowers for the queen Sudheshna.
Meanwhile Keechaka who comes to meet his sister
will see Draupadi and gets dumbstruck by her astounding
beauty. Draupadi warns him of his misbehavior with
her and tells him that she has five husbands who
are Gandharvas, gaurding her all the time. Saying
this she leaves the place. Keechaka, asks Sudheshna
to send Draupadi to his palace and threatens to
destroy the whole Kingdom if she disagrees his request.
The Queen tells Draupadi that she is feeling very
thirsty and requests her to get some wine from Keechaka's
palace. Draupadi goes there hesitantly. |

Draupadi
goes to Keechaka's palace and asks for some wine
for Sudheshna. Keechaka tries to woo her but she
escapes. From there he starts chasing her. |

Draupadi
goes to Virata and requests him to save her from
Keechaka. Dharmaraja then tells her that it is not
proper for her to come into the court, and gestures
Bhima to Kill Keechaka. |

Draupadi
meets Bheema and requests him to save her from Keechaka.
Bheema promises to kill Keechaka and tells her a
plan. |

 |
According
to Bheema's plan, Draupadi goes to Keechaka and
asks him to come to Narthanasala that night and
tells him that she would fulfill his desire. Delighted
Keechaka drinks and eagerly goes to Narthasala. |

|
It
was Bheema who took the place of Draupadi, dressed
in a saree and was waiting for Keechaka at Nartanasala.
Unaware of the ploy, Keechaka goes close to Bheema
thinking that his dream was coming true. Then he
finds himself deceived when he sees Bheema instead
of Draupadi. Angry Bheema jumps onto Keechaka and
starts fighting with him. After a fierce fight Bheema
succeeds in killing Keechaka. After this whole incident
in Narthanasala, Draupadi meets Bheema to thank
him for saving her life.
